REALISTIC PET PORTRAITS
I have always been passionate about drawing animals and bringing their personalities to life. Our pets have such a special place in our hearts and it is my desire to capture the unique characteristics of each pet that I have the opportunity to draw! No two animals are the same, and I aim to reflect this in my artwork. By commissioning me to paint a portrait of your beloved pet, you will receive a finished product that captures the details that make your pet uniquely them!
THE PROCESS
I am here to work with you through every part of the process. Below are the steps on how the process of commissioning a pet portrait works. After reading through the steps, please reach out if you have any further questions!
REFERENCE PHOTOS
Use the guide below to select the perfect reference photo for me to work from! Keep in mind that you can always send multiple photos of your pet. Once you have emailed me your photos, I will review them, confirm that at least one of them will work, and then proceed to the next step!
DEPOSIT
I require a 50% deposit before I begin working on the portrait. Once this has been paid, I will give you an approximate timeline of the start and finish date. Keep in mind that this is a first come, first serve process and there may be a waitlist! I will notify you when I have completed your portrait and send you a watermarked finished product. Once you have confirmed that you are satisfied and paid the remaining balance, I will email you a digital file of your completed portrait. Scroll to the bottom of the page to see my price list.
FINISHED PRODUCT
Once you have received the digital file of the completed portrait, you are free to have it printed in any size you want at your favorite print shop! Please keep in mind that you are not to alter the finished artwork in any way. This includes adding filters, cropping, or any other changes from the original.
HOW TO TAKE A GOOD REFERENCE PHOTO
In order to create a realistic and accurate portrayal of your precious pet, I need a detailed and well taken reference photo. An iPhone photo can work just fine, as long as you follow the guidelines bellow! You really cannot send me too many photos of your pet, as it is helpful for me to see them from multiple angels. Please do not hesitate to contact me if you are still unsure about this process after reading the tips below!
LIGHTING
Please turn off the flash to avoid giving your pet red-eye. Use natural light, such as a cloudy day outdoors or indoors by a window. Do your best to capture some reflections in the eyes as well!
ANGLE AND POSE
Please take a photo that is at eye level and a few feet away. Avoid photos taken from above, as this alters the proportions of your pet. Get your pet to either look at you or past your shoulder, with both eyes visible. Having them sitting up works best, so that I can successfully create a portrait from the chest up.
DETAIL
Please make sure that your photo isn't blurry so that it has plenty of detail. This means being able to see the detail of the fur, nose, etc. These are the little things that will make your portrait look the most realistic and really pop! Please also remove any clothing, collars, harnesses, etc. from your pet.
